Are any of you guys using Engine Tec kits for 302 ford,350 chevs,2.7 chrysler etc for stock rebuilds? Do you think the quailty is good enof for a stock rebuild?

If what you want is most basic quality, they will work for an econo rebuild. They will have rebuilder cast pistons that are .020" short to compensate for block decking.

I prefer a premium kit. I'm not on this site to sell anything, but I do sell a few kits on eBay. I'm putting this here only for comparison to what you get in an economy kit

I sell this 350 chevy kit for 329.99 on eBay and can offer a few cam choices.

EIGHT SEALED POWER HYPEREUTECTIC PISTONS - FLAT TOP WITH FOUR VALVE RELIEFS
HASTINGS MOLY RINGS
ACL ROD BEARINGS
ACL MAIN BEARING SET
DURABOND CAM BEARING SET
FEL-PRO PREMIUM GASKET SET
350 HP PERFORMANCE CAMSHAFT (USA)
16 BRAND NEW HYDRAULIC LIFTERS (high quality from GM's Delphi manufacturing plant)
CAM LUBE
DOUBLE ROW TIMING CHAIN SET WITH BOTH GEARS
MELLING M55 OIL PUMP
PIONEER BRASS FREEZE PLUG SET (includes steel plugs for oil galleys and rear of camshaft journal)

If you are legitimate business and have a tax number you should be able to hook up with a warehouse and get some good deals (Engine Pro warehouses etc...)

Kieth,
If hose are the # 345 Sealed Power pistons, aren't they also .020 short in pin ht?

I do use Sealed Power Hypereutetics at times but use the two valve relief ones with the standard pin ht (compressin ht). They cost more, I know but they also work very well and usually clear 600 plus lift cams eaisly in the SB Chevy.
Ed

PS. Never used an Engine tech lit.

An Engine Tech kit is the industry standard for budget rebuilders. They pay about $150 for the whole short block box - $250 if it includes cam, lifters, rockers pushrods and valves. You get what you pay for. It will run just fine in a stock rebuild.

If it was my money, I would go with Max Efforts $400 kit, because it is worth the extra.

Sorry I wasn't clear in my post. The OEM rebuild side of the shop in which I work on my Studebaker-Packards uses Engine Tech kits every day. They are the absolute lowest in price and are of acceptable quality. They are aimed at the buyer who shops price only. Seldom-to-never have comebacks because of component failures. Only thing extra is add a thou piston-to-wall clearance.

thnx, jv.

All rebuild kits that are supposed to be OEM rebilds will have the piston deck reduced as the bore size goes up, this is a federal law to control the compression ratio.

I have used many E/T kits and many of their bearings. We have them in our house engines just to prove a point. I have a welded 4.25" crank 555 without the .125 radiu in my daughters dragster and occasionally I run 2 stages of NOS and is quick enought to qualify for T/D. Upon taken the engine out and apart after 2 years of rough use, the bearings looked like new. These are Manley S/Series rods. I drilled the hole myself.

Engine Tech is just as good if not better than any other kit out there for the quality and price, its surely good enough for stockers and claimer engines. Done a few myself and never had any problems.

I think Dart has them make their cams bearings for their race block coated bearings? I am not 100% certain but pretty sure. They have always had what I needed and been at my door the next morning.
