I have found the older yellow GM springs to fit too tightly on the stock spring boss register. Not had that issue with the blue.

I have found no issues up to .525" with the guide height as is, with the comp 787 retainers and +.0-50" locks [which are needed to get to 1.800" for the GM and other beehives.

FWIW:

I found that the LS-7 springs use a retainer that is different than the other LS retainers. They have a metric valve too, but they must use a fatter lock than the other LS engines use. The LS-7 retainer fits 11/32" valve with normal 11/32" locks. The lock angle look correct, etc. I know this sounds hard to fathom.....

The LS7 retainers give a installed height that is apx .030" less than the comp 787 or equiv. The LS7 retainer works with the other springs that are .640" i.d. too.

The LS7 springs go in at 1.960", but perhaps the spring seat could be lowered, or if one liked longer valves, that might work too. They are common on ebay, sometimes low mile take offs.

p.s. - I have used the ...774 springs [used] with real mild cams.
