Frankenmotors
I was talking to a racer yesterday and telling him that he should post some of his esoteric knowledge of using bits and pieces from various engines.
Add to the list.
Toyota 22R crank has been used (mods needed) in the Ford Kent (EAO).
Honda D16 crank and girdle in the Suzuki G13

Re: Frankenmotors
Nissan L16/L18/L20B crank into Ford/Cosworth BDA, Lotus twin cam, for steel crank.
The photo above shows five different types of crank shaft.
Far Left: Standard OE Lotus Twin Cam cast iron crank (72.7mm stroke)
Second from Left: Datsun L18 fully counterbalanced crank modified to suit 1600 Crossflow.
Centre: Datsun L18 fully counterballanced crank modified to Suit Ford/Cosworth BDA.
Second from Right: Datsun L18 fully counterbalanced crank prior to machining.
Far Left: Datsun L18 partly counterballanced crank prior to machining.
Basically using the Datsun/Nissan forging as a rough-turned core, as it needs mains moved, snout worked, and journals ground to standard Ford/Lotus sizing.
Then we get into the head-chopping i've been working on slowly, and the Legos that Subaru and Nissan produce...so many parts interchange...

Re: Frankenmotors
Righty ho Kevin, let's see how clever he is
Ask him for a combo that will fit a Lada 1600 block ( 1600 cc limit )... some thing good for 8,500 ...piston will have to have m/c able dome for CR
I have a few combo's to check, but welcome any input
It's amazing how much of the Jap stuff swaps across to other makes

I would like to know if there is crank the blows out a 1.8 Miata to 2.0 L, using a bigger piston of course.

Re: Frankenmotors
Well, he did mention finding a 2.5l Renault forklift engine that he stuck in a Le Car (R5) -- and made it into a RWD by -- wait for it -- using a Miata rear axle. That's pretty close.RL wrote:Is the Lada block still a Fiat?lada ok wrote:Righty ho Kevin, let's see how clever he is

Re: Frankenmotors
It never ends. We were making Chevy stroker cranks from Studebaker cranks a long, long time ago. Keep your eyes open for opportunities to exploit.
Re: Frankenmotors
of course I was referring to the Vehicle
be careful where Yugo with those "always get their man" jokes
KGB? are you referring to a bankrupt accounting firm?
There was an Eskimo who was a husky fellow
Hmmm wonder what a 394 Olds crank would fit
where's J\oe Reath when you need him

Re: Frankenmotors
Renault made them with turbo engines.wyrmrider wrote:That's pretty scary
the roll bar would weigh more than le car
And they also made a few MID engined turbocharged models.
All we ever got was a little joke.

Over the hill but still learning!
