Chad,
They look really neat,fitment good?
I can't remember if you dynoed engine with 4 into 1 or tri-y or both.
Great to see you chipping away on the malibu

I trial fitted them a couple times, changed some things, tweaked etc...before having them coated. I had a tube pretty much up against the column, I was debating on massaging that or moving it some, but I decided not to, I felt like the back of the engine was still up a little high and need to come down a few degrees when tranny is in so I left it...figuring that would resolve itself. I also ordered a slightly shorter set of engine mounts for when I did the final install...figuring it would help alsosteve cowan wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 4:43 pm Chad,

Well the shorter mounts fixed all the problems on the driver side up against the column and steering shaft etc, but I now have a tube just touching the frame on the opposite side now. So Ill have to put some clearance in it. Just sucks, now that everything is coated. I tried. With all the various angles of tubes and frame etc...its hard to predict what lowering the engine a 1/2 inch will do.
Overall they fit good now. Looks like I can even run mechanical clutch linkage if I want to. They did not fit the ports of the cylinder head well at all. That took more time than I envisioned to get decent. I mostly ran 4-2-1 on it on the dyno, but they didn't fit the ports great either and were not mine to go grinding on....I feel like these are probably as good now as anything I ran on it on the dyno, but I'll never really know.

Thanks. They could have been nicer as far as the Tig welds go. A friend did all that, and he was a little rusty. It's something he once did daily, but only occasionally now. So you can tell which header he did the collectors on first . But I'm pretty happy with them overall.

First of all this turned into a thread of epic goodness.....I spent a good 3 hours reading through it and taking it all in.
CGT and randy331, thanks and congradulations on your work here, great results that did not come easy!
2 questions.....what did you end up using for a valvespring package at the end for the compcam,
And what lobes did that compcam get ground from?
My apoligy if the info is in here and I missed it.
I think you will have a very badass car to drive around and enjoy with this engine and the way you are setting the car up.
Thx again for sharing this build with us.
Re: Another "How much will it make?" Project "Special Needs"
The Comp cam was 236-247 109...xe intake huc exhaust off the top of my head.
The Manley spring was 221436-16...also off memory.
The Bullet cam was reinstalled afterwards, I felt it a better decision for the car overall.

Re: Another "How much will it make?" Project "Special Needs"
You didn't drop $1,200 bucks on fancy-shmancy lifters to keep your Bullet lobes happy either, right?
Re: Another "How much will it make?" Project "Special Needs"
It has the base Morel retrofit hydraulic roller lifter in it. I chose the Bullet cam because it has the ability to stay stable, at least more so than the Comp lobes past peak. I thought that would be more important in a semi-powerful street car with a manual trans, than the average torque gain from the Comp cam, which got into valvetrain trouble very abruptly. That xe intake lobe is very aggressive, especially for a relatively heavy valvetrain.
Once running if I have any trouble at all with shifts that accidentally happen after 7000, I will most likely change the current lifters out for some solid rollers. But I think I should be in the clear until 7500 with the Bullet cam. Hard to say if acceleration rates etc in the car vs the dyno will change any of that.
