From a 300-36 intake to a Victor Jr.

Post by pdq67 »

When should I consider an E-Brock Victor Jr. single plane instead of my Holley 300-36 dual plane for my next junk30?

I have never used a single plane so don't know.

Engine spec's.

301" SBC engine,
Big valve double-hump heads, (bowl blended and dingle-berry casting flash cleanup),
Right at 10 to 1 CR, maybe 10.25 to 1?, (.040" quench),
3310-2, 750 cfm Holley carb tuned, (on either intake),
280/246, 108/108, .500" lift, (with 1.6 ratio rockers), solid lifter cam,
1-5/8" dia., 4-tube, long tube, headers.

My computer won't run my old copy of D2k or I would run the numbers myself..

Thanks for any comments.

Maybe when you actually get around to building that junk 301.

Pdq, is everything ok? Well over six years now with lots similar and repetitive posts about building a junk 301.

Just had a mortality scare myself so nobody knows how much time we have! Build it now! I want to see you enjoy it before you can't!

Single plane for a high revving sbc. Those heads will be very restrictive but it'll still probably peak around 6500rpm.
LOL, according to the post count I'm an "expert." The only thing I'm an expert at is asking questions.

The heads are fine but they need to be ported..Get the air flow way up.

245++cfm in 180+ex w 2.02x1.60 with torqy 180ish finished ports.
You need to not have ProStock ports but you should warm up those heads for a good result.
CarNut1 can lead you thru it. They need basic straight forward but complete hand porting.
They will work very well.

The single plane manifold wants to rev. Especially on a 301CID SBC. so plan on big gears and a big stall.
it will work well if you plan for that in the car.

When you going to start putting this 301 together?

You have the basic of a fun street motor. But seem to be obsessing over certain things instead of moving forward.

As said if you got both intake try out both of them. Get the motor done so you can do that.
Both will work very well.

A decent set of Chinese heads with the proper dome piston would be light years ahead of the double humps. Just about any aftermarket head with the standard valve train location would be light years ahead. Obviously some are better than others.

You keep holding on to the 3" stroke like it helps something. You'd be best off building a 350 with a good valve train. How high do you want to rev it?

I would do this for Paul. I even have a premo set of 291 1.94 /1.5 with just guides and a valve job completely stock we could use as a starting point.

I have gotten flack for these heads before. Not 291's but not a huge difference either. 041 heads cut for 2.055 / 1.6 valves 92% bowl ratios. I think these would actually flow a bit more at 90% or 91% because the vj is very tight on these. About 69 cc chambers. I have no doubt a set of 291's built similar would make some steam on a snotty 301.
