I just had a visit from the guy that I trained to do gunning plastic.

He is into flipping cars so since he had never seen my car, here he comes after 32+ years!

He looked at his 454 that I bought off him that I turned into a 496 engine in my car now and said, "Hell, you can keep that BBC engine as far as I am concerned! I want the 350SS deal", as he thumped my 350SS emblem in the middle of my grill.

He knew his stuff because the 1st thing he did was look at the tab on the firewall to verify that my car was indeed a 350SS car!! Hell, I still have my hand written order papers for it! It is a true 350SS/RS car because we almost forgot to check the RS package line!

I point blank asked him what my car was worth and he came right out and said that since it really is a survivor, daily driver, that it was worth between $12 and $13,000 BECAUSE it doesn't have it's OEM block in it is all!!

The last time that I daily drove it back and forth to work was back in 1986. My hopped up 406 got 15 mpg running 55 mph and so when it came time to re-license it, I bought my 1987 Chevy Sprint ER 3-banger, 5-speed, 2-dr hatch car that got right at 50 mpg running 70 mph on I-70.

This is why I am on my Buddy Doc like, "white on rice", because my short block should still be out at his place after all these years!!

His now way long gone wife wanted it gone back then just because it didn't look right being out in the yard/weeds!!

My stock, OEM, '55 Belaire HT car had a 265 and a PG in it.

It had a beehive oil can filter up top as well as a two-piece bell housing that had the starter bolted to it instead of the block.

The b/h front ring bolted to the back of the 265 block and then the Tranny b/h bolted to it.

I never could verify it, but I think the PG front b/h adapter would fit the Olds 4-speed hydro's that GM put in some of the cars and trucks back then?? I know of at last one tri-5 Cameo P/U that had a 4-speed hydro in it stock.

One feature the old cast-iron P/G had was a rear pump such that you could push start your car when it was dead!!

Dammed little 265 engine ran great!

I bought the '55 for like $350 or so with this fresh engine in it.

I wrecked it and later sold and traded it for a '57 283 for not much money, I forget??

Anyway the young shit-head blew the great little 265 up in like 2 months! I know this for a fact because I talked to his Dad about it and he said what a fu*king shame!!

To continue AND way off topic!!

The shithead always wanted to try to kick the sh*t outta me in HS so one Sat morning at Edison Pozzi's gas station in Atlanta, MO we had at it.

I had engineer boots on and I flat told the kid that I was going to end up kicking the shit outta him.. Long story short, a couple of the guys held me back from kicking hell outta him.

We ended up being good friends after that fight.

No. The factory main caps are simply machined for the larger main bearings and the block relieved somewhat for the crank.

The 3892657 '67 350-295 block has the breather in the valley and the road draft setup on the back of the block is a 90 degree fitting to which a hose attaches and runs down by the starter. Plus it has a canister oil filter. It's the only passenger car large journal block to have had a canister filter.
In other words I just need to take the '66, SJ, 327 block I gave my nephew and bore it out to the 350 crank main size and use it.

Right.

Don't have to spread the main-bolts, do I??

pdq 67 , I have a 67 350 MS code here in the shop right now . It is the same main bolt space as any other 350 @ 3.25" c-c . Don't have a sj block here but I think it would have less c-c bolt space .

Update for IF you were to go back to 67 350 . curiosity got the best of me and i found a 283 to compare mains . I stand corrected it appears the caps are the same as MS 350 here so nephews 327 could be bored out for LJ like you said . In my mind SJ and LJ were different going from 30-40 yrs ago trying to put a windage tray on a 327 .

Thanks canuc,

Main-bolts 3.25" center to center!

I will double check and measure my '66, SJ 283 block.
