SBF 8931 Hyd lifter preload

Post by ec1 »

So upon an exhaustive search, I am finding everything on the web from zero lash to one full turn on these lifters. Several people claim that they have called Comp and gotten different answers as well... From Comp's instructions:

Hydraulic Roller Lifters
Applicable Part #s: 850-16, 851-16, 853-16, 854-16, 857-16, 900-16, 8920-16, 8921-16, 8931-16,
8934-16, 8953-16, 8954-16, 8957-16, 8959-16
Thank you for choosing COMP Cams® products; we are proud to be your manufacturer of choice.
Please read this instruction sheet carefully before beginning installation, and also take a moment to
review the included limited warranty information.
The following instructions cover the correct procedures for installing COMP Cams® Hydraulic Roller
Lifters. The hydraulic roller lifters can be used with adjustable and non-adjustable valve train setups.
Through various testing we have discovered that the recommended lifter pre-load should be set 1 turn
of the wrench on the rocker arm adjusting nut past zero lash for optimal performance.

Anyone have any real experience on these lifters? Customer supplied them and I want to just throw 3/4 to one turn on them but they have some fingers built into the circlips that I have never seen before.

.020" to .030" from the BOTTOM of the plunger travel is the only thing to consistently work well with those POS lifters.
SO, make the pushrod length accordingly.
We have found that their "short travel" lifters are their only decent hydraulic roller lifters.

Do you think 5327 Morels will be fine for a 6500 rpm engine with 150/385#? Cam is 232/242 .544/.560 with 1.6 ratio. Or should i step up to the real spring pressure 5879's?? I think i can get away with the .700 wheel lifters but maybe not.
