Kaase/Brechler EMC 473 MEL: Additional results
After the completion Jon mentioned that he thought with a bigger cam there was a lot more horsepower to be had.
I was all for finding out, so the cam was sent back to Comp for a regrind. While Jon had the heads off he flowed them: 380 int 300 ex @.575 lift
Attached is the dyno sheet from yesterday. Jon thought 900 was possible.. I don't know how he could have been so far off. LOL
He is giving a seminar on this engine at the PRI show on Tues if anyone wants more details on this project

That ought to really turn some heads in a nostalgia drag racer.

I have not gotten that info from Kaase yet.. It is a solid roller.

Does the MEL engine use a cam core that's totally unique or can you use the same one as a 460?
Re: Kaase/Brechler EMC 473 MEL: Additional results
What kind of flow would those heads see before he did mods. Very impressive flow.
Re: Kaase/Brechler EMC 473 MEL: Additional results
I have some ported stock heads that will flow about about 300 intake and 220 exhaust.. The cam core is unique to a MEL
Re: Kaase/Brechler EMC 473 MEL: Additional results
Man thats not bad even just ported. Better that i would've guessed.

Looks like a big correctional factor. What are the conditions in/at the dyno and location?

It was starting to run fat above 6300 so with some Carb work I could see getting close to 875 or so!

May I ask if anybody has used Mr. Fuelings aluminum torque truck, 454 BBC center-fire heads in competition?
I know it's off topic since the thread is about a big MEL engine, but I would think they would be dandies IF they can pass enough air to be competitive.
Sorry for the hi-jack.

Maybe Jon will chime in on correction factor and rpm/sec questions.. I was not able to attend the dyno session...

I like the 200 RPM/sec sweep. I also like step tests, more time for everything to stabilize. With slow sweeps and/or steps, the engine is getting a workout!
I don't know where that dyno was located. I believe Kasse is in Winder GA, which is 984 ft, but that is just one of many possible correction factors. I don't doubt the results, just wondering...
