Decided that he wanted to build a race car, but he didn't want to compete with his customers at the cam shop. So he located a 1932 Nash and built a car to run at Bonneville, utilizing the Nash straight eight block and heads. Just about everything else in the engine was hand-built and the car set several records at B'ville.
I'm a long-time fan of Bruce's and his decades of firsts and his company products will be a legend forever. Anyway, I was on the salt 1988 or so when he brought the '27 T roadster with the Nash and set an A-gas modified roadster record of 227.4. Unfortunately, the high boost cracked a cylinder head.

Jack, there are crazy people everywhere. I worked at Lockheed Space Systems for awhile as an engineer and got to talking with a tech about racing. Seems he and two of his friends had gone to Bonneville in the '80s or '90s with a mid '30s Chrysler Airflow with a 6-71 roots blower strapped to a home made intake on the flathead straight 8. When I asked why on earth he would do such a thing, he said the idea sounded like fun.... and if I'da known about it at the time, I would have signed up too! They set a record but can't remember how fast. Stock flat-out for those old timers was about 88 mph.
