This is the one I'm really interested in, the 083 beads..I have a set waiting for some work.

But I'll wait till these are done and see what kind of power they make before I start hacking away on them.

These are what I run on the old work truck. 2.02/1.6 studs, guide plates, hydraulic roller springs. Makes an excellent high torque head. The chamber isn't as good as a vortec chamber but is worth working up.

How much difference is there in flow and hp on the same cc port between oval and rectangular?

:I'm interested in how well the ported 083 L98 cylinder heads performed on the running engine.
Any feedback?

Not much to get out of a TPI deal N/A. I’ve had 7 or 8 of these things and been a member on TGO since the mid 90’s. I’ve watched numerous guys spend money to push these intakes as far as they will go. The stock stuff ports better than the vortec stuff. The Accel stuff is good. Super Ram is excellent and First Fuel Injection stuff is great. Usually 383’s with max effort ported and welded stuff will do 325-350rwhp and at 52-5500rpm give or take.

I’m a huge fan of thirdgens but I am on hiatus for a while. There’s more than a few knowledgeable guys on this board. Orr is one of them but I hadn’t seen him around in a while. Maybe he’ll chime in.

Anyway, this car prob put down 270-280rwhp if it was tuned well.

TPI just has too much working against it, runner length, plenum volume and the 180 turn with round tubes, the air gets in it's own way. I still want to mess with my own some more in the future and port another stock plenum to see if I can improve it a tad but it's the 180 runners I believe that are the real limit.

If one could get around 380hp out of a TPI 350 with mildly ported 113 heads in an endurance racing situation it would be great. Not gonna happen methinks.

From what I saw on a Holdener vid where he tested a L98 with TPI and then with a carb it does seem the long block may be a good starting point however.

I can only wish I was only 55. The pain starts in earnest after that. Nobody told us it would hurt to get old. Still better than the alternative. I didn't understand why someone would miss your comments if you were still around.

I miss charlie's comments because he hasn't been posting much for a while. Charlie has some of the best posts ever on this site.
