SBF 20° head preference

Im interested to hear what cylinder head is the preference amongst others. I am looking for 20 ° SBF castings for a 425" Windsor for a friend...non ported. Something that could be possibly run with stud rockers initially, not interested in CNC'd or pre ported castings. Whats the head to have within that criteria? Preferably, people that have been there only. Thanks

Trickflow high port is top of the list to start with. That head can be ported to make some real steam. I know you weren't interested in cnc'd or ported but the afr 220 is a great otb head for that engine. I have a 447 4.1x4.155 bracket race deal that has ran 5.89 at 117 mph in a not so great car (needs lots of updates).

I think I'll agree on the highports.

Alot will shout AFR, but they are "CNC ported", but can be refined, as far as I understand.

I assume you will do the porting, and that's why a unported head.

You will get somewhere wifh Vic Jr's, RHS, DART FordZ etc too.

Thanks. How much does your bracket car weigh? I built a 427 Windsor a while back for a friend. Its consistently in the 5.90's at about 2950. Out of the box AFR's, compression, methanol, solid roller. So I cant complain on those for sure. Just looking to try and do something a little better on this deal, and keep the initial investment down...its gonna be a longer term project amongst friends and learning piece. Thanks for the input. I have been looking at the RHS, its just hard to find really good pics of any of the ones you just mentioned. Yet the Chinese heads have pics from every angle....hmmmm, I think I see whats going on here. :x

Trick Flow "High Ports" are good "out of the box" with the greatest potential to grow using the same heads.

So the high port head is raised runner i assume? Does it use a dedicated manifold? I did some looking and didnt see bare unported castings anywhere.

Profiler has some nice flowing 20 degree heads out now for the SBF.. 205 runner, 63cc chamber, 2.05/1.60 valves and a raised exhaust port..
Flow 308/215cfm @ .600.. should get the job done for a bit over 600.00 ea. bare..

Haven't seen any yet.. but am picking up a set for a 12.5CR 347 going in a boat with a Jones sft cam.. 232/236@110, soon as they get here, will provide pics..

It is a customers car not sure on the weight. I would say about 2800 ish. The car does not work the best. The exhaust ports are raised on the high ports intake is standard location.

i have some. I would post them, but i am at work and i cant access my imgur due to some of our software. PM me your email and I will send them to you. you will likely need an offset rocker at least on the intake to get the geometry half way decent. the guideplates on mines were a real pain, and i didnt feel like spending a ton of $ trying to find an intake rocker that would work, so i called T&D.

Thanks I'll do that. The AFR heads I mentioned earlier, I ended up finding a slightly offset rocker at Harland Sharp that made things a little nicer and allowed me to squeeze a 3/8 pushrod in it. Not perfect by any means but way better than it was, that and the split guideplates. He needs shaft rockers, bottom line. lol

The "High Port" head has a larger and much raised EXHAUST port with a different flange cross-bolt pattern as well as the "Wide" pattern;
the intake port is near the production location.

The out of the box "High Port" only has a CNC combustion chamber because different cc chambers are offered; the 64cc version is part number TFS-51710001-M64 ... the ports are as cast with the intakes at at 192 cc's.
