Re: Oil groove
My Ford V-6 SVO crank is just like that it was from the Busch car back in the nineties.
Re: Oil groove
this crank must have been very light. Then they added 25 slugs of Mallory. Needs around 2000g bobweight. Not sure why they do that. The original owner had balance guy do it then couldn't pay. Balance shop stuck with it. I was going see where we could use it.

Re: Oil groove
Memory is fading, but don't the air cooled VW engines have long oil groves almost like that?

Re: Oil groove
Noticed this because 1972ho commented on it. The SAE paper below discusses the theory. Be sure to note the handedness of revolution when comparing to other crankshafts with similar grooves.

That is done to reduce the OD of the crank. Moves the weight closer to the centerline. Lets the engine spool up quicker.
Been doing that to flathead Fords since the 50's. Cranks end up an inch smaller in diameter than stock.

Re: Oil groove
It begs the question, why go through the process of installing all that Mallory without notifying the customer first on how much it was going to cost, and more importantly to get a deposit once the price was discussed.
The most Mallory I've installed is 3 or 4 slugs per end, always in the outer counterweights. There must be some sweaty moments once you're deep into that crank, gee is there enough? As you spin it up.
