Plenum,2925?

Post by 88bluestar » Tue Apr 02, 2019 2:23 pm

2925 super Vic intake untouched currently, and was considering just blending the transition of the port roof on the plenum.
Should I do the blending or leave it as such with this engine combo
And should any more porting be done on the head intake ports.

1/4-3/8 size dirt track oval, wide curved turns, American racer kk704 tire
Current engine is a 355, 93 ethanol free gas, 9.9:1 comp
EQ 350H hybrid vortec(1205 fel pro matched) 5 angle perf valve job, ferrera 2.02/1.60 valves, no bowl work other then the blend near the valve seat, and the port match
244/248 .528/.538 lift 105-adv 4 def solid lift cam
6.125 Honda rod end,
45 lbs 4340 crank
370 gm SRP flat top piston std tension
780 cam Holley 4bbl mech sec
2925 super victor intake. 1 5/8”-3 collector.open exhaust
3900 ft above sea level if that matters

Rules
Any intake but carb mount surface is 7” max from block to intake carb mount, any 4bbl carb.
.540 intake/.560 lift rule(solid flat tappet)
7000rpm rule.

Usually the restriction on that one is right at the top, the corners really come in. Its not a big pick up probably even more so on your deal cause those heads aren't great and you have a smallish cam plus an RPM rule.

This has the older intake bolt pattern. not the vortec bolt pattern.

I have always used that intake on my Vortec headed engines. The 2925 is for the older bolt pattern.

I kinda don't see the 2925 as being the best pick for a 1/4 mile track in terms of average rpm seen.

Actually 3/8 dirt track for most racing.

Don't care for it on a short half either, for what you describe.

Well at least two of my competitors use this intake, and they win quite a bit. Same or similar heads as well.

That settles it then. It's the secret sauce. Nothing wrong with noting what your successful
competitors are using, and it may be best for you also. But like any good racer, you're constantly
looking for ways to get faster. So you look for information from many sources to help you.
My two bit comment was based on my experience. I think in your situation likely that manifold will
"feel lazy" compared to some others. But as they say, your mileage may vary. It's your combo, keep
trying. It's part of what makes this sport so challenging (and expensive).

I haven't touched the intake yet, but having read quite a bit up on here about the transition from the carb pad down into the roof of the ports I was just trying to see if it helps in the situation or hinders torque/hp. Money is tight so using what is available.

Here's a tip for that Carb pad to port roof radius, it likes to be the same arc as what the short turn in the heads valve bowl Averages out to minus the valve job, assuming that the head has good short turn height and is stable in regards to what it flows.

I forget if that Intake has enough roof meat for that, but if it does not you just want to make it as constant a radius as you can.

The velocity is lowest on that radiuses Plenum side so as the turn gets to the port roof you want the blend in to be eased the most at that area.

There wont be anything "lazy" about that intake with that cube and rpm, if spacers are allowed get a max height allowed blended 4 hole that has the 7 degree taper, if not i would lay the eyebrows back in the plenum and radius the inner runner roofs toward the carb barrels, those intakes are good but need work
