Hi everyone,
On the subject of hyd lifter quality these days, I firmly believe most are not to the standard they used to be. I used to work at the Company in Australia that made all the hydraulic lifters for all Ford OEM V8 and 6 cylinder engines, from late 1960,s to the last V8 produced, they also manufactured the roller rocker arms with integral hyd lifter for the Ford Barra 6 engine.
All operations were performed in house, including machining, heat treatment, grinding, hard chroming plunger bodies etc, its the assembly room that was most impressive, temp controlled and dust free, the plunger outside diameters and lifter bores were air gauged in millions of an inch and there were 20 selective sizes automatically selectively fitted so that leak down rates were spot on, it was a very high precision operation, for the day, that produced very accurate parts.
