Re: D0OE intake ports
And by the way some of what I have called porting time involved taking accurate size measurements for the OP.
You can cut a man's tongue from his mouth, but that does not mean he’s a liar, it just shows that you fear the truth he might speak about you!
Re: D0OE intake ports
I wasn’t referring to how I’d go about reworking one of these heads specifically...... it’s just the order in which my process usually unfolds.
Mostly Mopar stuff.
I don’t think I’ve worked on a factory set of 69/70 351w heads in 25 years.

Re: D0OE intake ports
Oh, ok I got ya PRH!
The D00Z heads as have been mentioned in this string start out life with bigger valves then these E7TE heads, as they have a 1.84" Intake not a 1.780", and from the stock flow test I have found on line that 4% larger valve makes for more Intake flow of course, so we can't compare these two heads yet until I get these E7TE heads up to that valve size.
PRH if you had these heads in front of you, you would likely not touch the short turn yet as part of your normal grinding effort just like I have chosen to do, its in a way much like a Mopar 452 casting as you don't dare touch, lol!
Even thought it's low, it's too layed back in stock form, in fact seing as I have gained 25% more high lift flow so far along with no air flow sheer taking place would seem to validate my leaving it stock so far.
Would you folks here not say so?
In fact a think if Ford had used a less layed back short turn ( like maybe .030" less) they could have had much stronger flow numbers from .200" to maybe .400" lift in stock form.
By the way, what ever happen to the Jon Kasse SB Ford canted valve heads, does he still make / offer them?
They seemed to have everything going for them that you could ask for!

Re: D0OE intake ports
Even on a job where I’m only going after the lowest of the low hangin fruit.........the short turn pretty much always gets a little luv.
I’m freshening up some SBC 186 heads now. Factory 2.02/1.60...... they have already been overhauled before.
The current valve job has a radius approach to both intake and ex seats(that will be changed on the intake seat).
This is going to be one of those “low hangin fruit only” type of jobs.
Recut seats, blend away the ridge at the OD of the valve job, blend bowl and short turn.
Whatever that ends up like....... it is what it is.

Here is what I do with this kind of stuff. And I agree when it's done, it is what it is. Size the throat, rework the SSR, blend it, call it a day.

Re: D0OE intake ports
Looks like a lot of core shift in that casting!
What size Throat are you going up to 1.80.

Re: D0OE intake ports
Have you done up a set of 670s before with above a 1.820" Throat if I can ask you?

With no welding fixes needed?

Re: D0OE intake ports
Your a luck fellow as I have gone thru port walls before on the common wall side with only a 1,850" Throat and this is on the 1968 and up D ports with there higher port angle and taller short turns then that 670 casting!

Re: D0OE intake ports
I wouldn’t have been brave enough to make that big of a vertical cut in those heads
