iclean the grooves by soda blasting gently.ya. dont use those so called ring groove cleaners.or by ultra sonic but that requires solution for aluminum.that we may or may not be using at the time.

No, not at all Dave.
Piston crown flex is typically greater than .0004, and can be even 100 times greater.
But tighter ring clearances still prove strong.............?

i don't get it either. Also clearances are proportional to size. .001" per what? bore? ring width?

.0010" TOTAL axial (side) clearance. This clearance is not proportionate to any other dimensions. .0010" clearance, regardless of bore, ring thickness,
radial width, etc., etc.

Pistons should never be cleaned with any sort of abrasive material such as glass beads, soda blast, etc.

So it's based on oil viscosity then?
That's the only size that a big and a little engine can have in common, is the oil.
