Block grout

Post by apm »

What is everyone's opinion on which is the best block grout ? I have been using 1 brand lately as it mixes easy and pours well , sets very fast , especially in summer , but of late a few engines have come back for service work and the grout is eroding really bad , couple of customers saying they end up with lots of the grout in the radiator ?
Thanks

Mix the grout with fiberglass resin then let the block sit for atleast 3 days with room temps above 60.
I use to use resin and Aluminum shavings that I got from a General machine shop that use to be one town over from me and that worked flawlessly!

Master Builder non-shrink grout. No cracks or erosion that I've observed.

There are 3 that I use depending upon where I get it. Use the coldest water available.

Euclid NS... hi-flow metallic grout, Hi-Tolerance, non-shrink

Embeco 636 ... non-shrink, metallic Aggregate grout by Master Builders - (more difficult to find).
Embeco 885 ... hi-precision, non-shrink, metalic/quartz aggregate grout by Master Builders - (pours easy but costs more).
Embeco and MasterFlow are the same thing in different bags.

Never had an issue with any of those.

I once filled a block (well, one bank) with Moroso's grout near the end of the workday. I turned the heat off when I left. In the morning I turned the heat back on, turned the block to stand up the other bank, and filled my shoes with liquid grout.

I would have thought it would have at least set up *some* overnight, but apparently it was very temperature-sensitive.

I used some sheet metal and a Mr. Heater to keep the block warm after that...

Walter, I was told the Embeco line has been discontinued, it’s all Masterflow now.

For such a small quantity of mix I hope people are using distilled water, otherwise this is probably why the grout is disintegrating in service. Don't trust public water supplies and certainly not well water.

Non catalyzing machinist grout. Cheap and easy.
