Will THIS buff out?

Those examples will definitely buff out the inside of the leather on your wallet as you pull out the greenbacks to replace and repair those engines and parts!!

So what's the story??? Did the crank break first or was it the block? I guess at least we get to see where the weak spots are on the SBC block.

I wonder if this crank was vibrating before it broke and the cracked the main webbing.

Re: Will THIS buff out?
I was thinking that it looks like the #4 piston hit something in the chamber causing it to push hard on the crank breaking the crank and block.
Or maybe it was the #2 piston. I can't tell what that material is around the #2 piston.

The one I broke was a French made billet. Small journal mains and 1.850” rod journals. I salvaged everything but the crank and camshaft. Put a new cam and a Bryant in and won the next feature. I have another one just like the one that broke in another engine. So far so good. Fingers crossed.

This came out of a dirt late model IIRC...maybe 700-800 up. N/A no spray.

Krooser wow i would not have guessed na. I think for whatever reason a center main cracked first while everything was still running hard. Then everything started to work loose as run and crank flexing more and more. Then it hit the point of no return.I will say this though. While on a much heavier diesel we did have a Detroit 871 break a crank right in a main 2nd from back. We ran the truck for many months only noticing a vibration in clutch pedal when depressed. Then we did routine oil change and noticed a blockage in oil flow when draining. After pulling pan noticed 2nd from rear main was laying in pan and the crank was twisted and nearly broke in two right in center of that main. I could not believe it had not sheared completely and twist off. So its crazy what you see and how goddam tough alot of that stuff is. That said i do feel for ya. No one likes to see that.

The 3406E Cat in my last Peterbilt broke a crank snout at 300,000 miles or so. They had a bad batch and did a recall.
I've seen several deals like you DD... gas and diesel.
