Jaguar 4.2 E type lip rear main seal conversion?

Post by KnightEngines »

Got a Jag E type 4.2 in, owner wants to convert to a 2 piece lip rear main seal.
I figure I can grind the seal area on the crank & find a seal to fit, but if anyone has done this before it'd make life easier knowing exactly what to do & get!

I don't know if this helps but this guy is a true gentleman to talk to and does a lot of one off stuff.

It would help if you posted dimensions. Crank OD, housing OD & width.

Don't hold me to it but I ground the seal area of one of these cranks for this reason several years ago and and I think there is an adapter that goes in the block to hold the seal. I don't remember what seal was used,I want to say small block Chevy but I've only seen it done once so my memory isn't that great.

We fit seal conversion kits to Jags all the time for one of our customers, I'll have to check the brand and let you know, there is a holder that bolts to the block and it uses a small block chev rear seal, they give you a drawing for modifying the seal track on the crank , really easy
