Heat treat crankshaft
Is it necessary to have a crankshaft heat treated after it has reground to a stroker size.I had my 351 cleveland rod throws change to 2.100 and stroked to 3.690 from standard size.

Re: Heat treat crankshaft
The factory Cranks in these motors are cast so there's no need to do that as the needed clean oil film under pressure does not ware a journal surface.
If your Bearings are touching the Jurnals then there's no hardening / heat treatment that will help out at racing rpm levels!
Having a cast Crank Nitrided will harden the surface alright , but also make it far more brittle and maybe make it so it can't be reground.
Both of these facts for me is not something I do not want with any cast Crank I run.
I am sure you will hear from others depositing there 2 cents worth on this topic you have brought up!

You can cut a man's tongue from his mouth, but that does not mean he’s a liar, it just shows that you fear the truth he might speak about you!
