Two Oil Control Rings

I am working on a 1952 Buick 263. The original pistons had two cast iron oil control rings.
The replacement Hastings set has one cast iron oil control ring and one more modern 3 piece oil control ring set.
There are no instructions as to which should be installed in the 3rd or 4th groove:(
What would you suggest?

Its been a while, but I believe you are right. 3-piece oil control ring in 3rd groove and cast iron ring in 4th groove (in skirt). These OHV Buick straight 8s were low revving engines having long stroke and full skirt pistons. The ring in the 4th groove was there to stabilize piston in bore (minimize rocking, thereby enhancing ring seal) in addition to oil control. These engines had pressure oiling to mains and rod journals, but gudgeon pin and rings were splash oiled and lifters were oiled by draindown from low pressure oiling to rockers if I remember correctly.

Yes, thanks for the input. I do believe you are correct.
On closer examination, I notice that in the original engine, the iron ring in the 3rd groove had an inner spring under it.

She is the best person there for ring information. Regardless of what you need she can find it.

I heard back from Hastings. It is as suggested above, the 3 piece ring in the 3rd groove and the one piece in the 4th.
