IIRC, I Have, in a post 3+ years ago, caused by the cast-in liner having ribs & growing erratically.
Been searching but getting nowhere.
Anyone ever see cylinder wear like this?

Given the symmetry of the shiny patches, that seems like a most logical explanation. So, does someone know if it's so or does a cylinder need to be sacrificed to verify?

I dropped off the cylinders and new pistons at a machine shop here in Nashville that builds Harley drag bikes. He seems to agree with the off shore cylinder quality being at least partially to blame for the wear pattern and the honing process taking it from bad to worse(as at least a few people have mentioned).
He was confident that the +.010 over bore would get the bore straight and then the vertical honing process (again as HDBD and others suggested) would be more than enough to keep this from happening again.
