Post by 1972ho »

Just picked up another used ford SVO V-6 but when I got the block I see someone has installed a fitting into the lifter galley on both sides, and drill and tapped the back of the block for some type off fitting anybody ever seen something like this done before and why. There is not anything thing wrong with oiling system of a SVO block it has priority oiling.

My guess would be that the motor was used for some temperature, flow and or pressure study's .

With all of that rust you sure have your work cut out for you to get rid of it all so as to not chew up Bearings!
I hope you have a Glass bead cabinet big enough to to toss that into to clean it up ?

It's a gallery not a galley.
A Galley is a type of ship.

Its funny, most of the guys that I run into that call then oil galley's are more senior than I am, and guys that call them Galleries are often my age or younger. I have just learned to "read between the lines" as to what they are referring to. I will NEVER get my father to call them galleries.

As to the OP's block, I don't know what it is for. I know in the testing world we put sensors and crap all over the place in stuff that it was not ever intended. They may have wanted to see pressures at different places in the oiling system.

Lots of people used to be employed in the printing business (linotype galley).

And they filled the valley. Probably experimenting with keeping draining oil off the rotating assembly as much as possible. Good possibility that plugs were used in the standpipes but they were easily removed.

Not exactly.

“Gallery” refers to a passageway.

A “galley” is the kitchen on a ship.

A galley is a ship primarily powered by multiple sets of oars.

Galley may also refer to:

Galley (kitchen), the kitchen of a rail passenger car, ship or an airplane
Galley (surname)
Galley (heraldry) or lymphad, a charge
Galley proof, a preliminary version of a publication
"Galley" has also been used in engineering publications to refer to the same thing as a "gallery" (oil passages or passageways).

Definition of gallery is an open passage way, hence art gallery or oil gallery. Galley is the kitchen on a ship . . . . . I have always referred to oil passageways as oil galleries and I AM an old guy . . . . . . . Proper word usage and good grammar have no age limits.

It's to move oil from one gallery to the other.

WOW. Look at this. A person miss - spells a word by leaving out one letter and everyone jumps on him. Talk about railroading a thread.

Anyone notice the similar topics below. Seems like he is not the only one that calls it an oil galley. :D

Hope I didn't miss - spell any words.

A “galley” is the kitchen on a ship.
It's also a type of ship:

It doesn't matter which you think it is, it's a nautical term and certainly isn't a passage for oil in an engine.
