Race Engine Challenge intake critique

I was asked to texture the inside of this manifold for D.V. and Terry Walters. It was fully ported 4230 casting it has Wilson manifolds on the side. I was unhappy with the transition to the runners, the leading edge of the runners, the taper in the last few inches of runner to flange, I also needed to do some epoxy work to fill the old injector bungs. So it really got a full port as if it was not touched except for the gasket match. This bunch of photos was taken from my daughter Carla with her nice digital camera. I appreciate her help. This manifold produced 702.3 hp and 1.67 hp/cube. Any input to improve those numbers is appreciated. Thanks, Charlie

Upside down runners, you can see the epoxy work.

Looks like some detailed work, and it actually made a bit more power than that, made 710hp on what i think was last pull.

It ran well. However, I think the score would have been better if it was a slightly smaller engine as it peaked horsepower near only 6,800 RPM; if I recall it correctly.

David may discuss the combo, if he does the reasons will be evident. For an older design I think it did well. There is no substitute for experience. D.V. and Terry have over 100 years of engine design experience between them. I was honored that I was asked to help.

I followed it pretty closely ... best run, 610 @ 5,000 peak.

That sounds pretty respectable although I don't know what their goal was.
