904 (903) Mech lifters and various wheel size

Post by Kurshuk »

Hello Everyone!

Venturing into the 903 SBC lifter world...

Looking for a set of 903 lifters for an engine and I noted 3 different wheel sizes... .800, .810, .820 Advantage/Disadvantage I thought .810 was the standard wheel size for 903 lifters but apparently not.

I have seen write ups about comp cams RACE XD bushed lifters with .800 wheel but cannot find them anywhere or any feedback on how they are holding up, especially with drag racing lobe profiles. Are they not out yet?

I would appreciate any lifter recommendations for this application. Looking for bushed solid roller lifters.

427 SBC 4" stroke x 4.125" bore
Cam spec given... 55mm cam 1817RE, 1759RE, 283/296 @.050, LS of113+0 - Lift Int 752 Exh 774 with 1.6 rockers

Thanks!

You need to check, to see what size roller follower, those profiles were designed for.
If they're designed for a .750" diameter, and you put a .820" roller on it, the acceleration rate(off the seat, and back on the seat) will be increased. This could cause increased pushrod flex and/or premature seat bounce.

As for .903" lifters, for SB Chevy, our have a .815" wheel.
