I want to put a 406 together on the cheap. I've got a 400 block .30 over, 3.75 crank, some scat i beam rods, and a set of dome speed pro pistons that should put it near 13:1 comp, have a set of dart iron eagle 230 heads. 2.08/1.60 valve. and a bullet solid roller cam .688/ .688 261/267 @.050 108 separation. Also have a super victor intake. Will probably run a dominator and c14+ just because I have a barrel of it for my other race engine. This engine is gonna go in a mud truck and will probably see 7500-8000 rpm depending how I gear it. I'm wondering about rocker ratio? 1.5 or 1.6? I I wondered about even split rockers maybe 1.6 on the intake? Can some of you small block guys chime in on this. I'm used to big blocks. How do you think this combo will work?
The heads are out of the box but I may work on the bowls and throats a little bit if it'd be worth a little power

I am just a garage hack but this is right up my alley. If it was mine, I would put the 1.6 rocker on the intake,(I think that the cam is fairly close, maybe a little small), port the head and manifold, and let er eat. If a production block, be aware of the possible short life span.

That’s asking a lot from an OEM 400 block. The good thing is it’s going into a mud truck so hopefully it’s not going too fast when it drives over the lower end. That being said I’d put the 1.6 on the intake. 1.5 on the exhaust should be ok for what you’re looking to do.
