Valve spring cup with .500 ID

Post by Kenny M »

Does anyone make a valve spring cup with a .500 ID with a.1.580 OD spring? .060 thick?? These are Cleveland heads with new .500 guides. Cutting them down to .560 for the Manley 42370 cup leaves very little cast iron. I would rather cut them flush to the spring pad. I'm running the 221443 Manley springs.

Thanks
Kenny

Is this a dual or single spring?
Its a common mistake shops make rather then getting the correct guide the 1st time they rely on others to correct
their mistakes. To put a 502 od guide in a head it leaves a very thin layer of material to the OD creating issues after the engine runs and the outer guide casing cracks and breaks off.
There is a .570 ID cup available for a 562 guide.
If its a dual spring there is ID locators available in several sizes. While its a PITA to do collars can be made
to use a more common locator if the heads can't be corrected to suit the valve train needs.

Agree, I don't like the small amount of cast iron left to center a .560 spring seat, I did think that I may have to machine sleeves if there is no better answer. Yes it is a dual spring.830 ID.

Thank you, I may go this way and make a .070 sleeve to press onto the valve guide.

Use Manley ID locator 42369-16. It fits your spring and has a .635" ID. Cut your guide boss to .625"-.635", that should leave enough cast iron wall thickness(.065").

Depending on how far along you are. You can spot the entire guide and boss flush with the top of the spring pad and install guides for aluminum heads that are .502 with a .565" step for the locator. CHE, Xceldyne, Precision Products etc all offer those.
