Pre 1974 Delco distributor and the sawdust packing

Post by abi »

Hi all, I am building up a distributor and want to know what to replace the factory fitted sawdust packing which is above the top bushing I have seen others pack this cavity with grease but I feel something else might be more suitable. i dont really want to reuse the sawdust if possible.

Any advice welcome.

Can make a seal using felt. And oil it.
My chevy inline distributors use them.
And i have one thats been rebuild and has a rubber lip seal, so far no issues.

I packed it with felt and impregnated it with as much straight 30w oil as it would swallow. No problems.

Put motor oil in the cavities and pack it with paper towel so the paper is saturated with motor oil. :)
