BBC oil gallary plug by the oil filter

Post by pdq67 »

I forgot, where is the removable oil gallery plug in a BBC's oil gallery's above the oil filter that forces the oil through the oil filter?

I think it is like a little freeze-plug, but don't remember for sure?

Correct, BBC doesnt have that. Feed from the pump to the filter is a drilling from the rear main bearing bore area (which is plugged by the main bearing shell when its fitted) at a slight upward angle almost all the way to the filter boss, then a drilling from the filter boss area at a slight upward angle to intersect with the drilling from the main.
The drilling from the main also is intersected by a short drilling from the main cap face on the block and this aligns with the oil hole in the cap so that oil passes from the pump, thru the cap, thru the short hole in the main cap face, sharp turn then into the filter boss then into the filter.
Craig.

Appears to be dependent on the particular block (if he is mixing the ideas of internal and external plugs):

Are you asking about the plug required in a Mk4 block to use an oil cooler?

No, not the BBC oil coiler line hole(s).

Just one that if I left it out of my BBC, I would have an internal leak and oil wouldn't go through the oil filter.
