looking for info about this inline hemi 6 cylinder head

Post by bill jones »

---I have this head porting project but have no idea what the head fits and what it's designation is yet.

---if anybody knows anything about what this fits and possibly any flow numbers I'd appreciate some story about it.

---also would like to hear something about this head being used maybe in a stock versus modified condition.

---the sparkplugs are all tilted in two different directions---4 lean one direction and two lean the other direction.

---the end pair of cylinders are opposite to each other---and the two middle cylinders are opposite to each other

---I don't have any valves for it yet.

--valve guides look to be 8mm---about .314/.315" or so

thanks,,,,

Looks like a Toyota 5M-GE cylinder head.

The combustion chambers and ports looked very "Toyota" to me, like an extended 22R, but I got thrown off a little bit by the lack of cam boxes. Also, I thought all the DOHC M engines were 4 valves per cylinder. Oops!

5MGE came with 161 hp and 169 tq in its final iteration. Could be found in '82-'86 Toyota Supras in the US.

Stan's site shows intake flow at 10mm of 178 and 252cfm, stock vs ported.

One of my customers years and years ago had one of these in a Cressida (stock). At the time I remember how well it ran. Considering the stock GM crap I worked on at the time, not a surprise.

3.27" bore x 3.35" stroke.
