What would you do if your motor was built like this?

Post by Krooser »

Got a buddy who crews on his nephews Sprint car team.

This past season they struggled with their SBC not performing up to snuff.

They took it to another builder and look what they found...ouch.

Did it pull to the left under hard acceleration?

Had the valve clearance set tight at least.

I bought one from a "Friend" a couple years ago, damn near the same thing. "Dyno tuned" as well. Luckily I caught it before ever using it when I decided to do a leak down and it was like it had no valves at all

Some people really go to extremes so as not have to rebalance.

They have a hunch the last guy to touch it took their good heads and installed similar but different heads. Big name northeast builder.

Here is a "way out there" theory - what if those pistons were in holes where the crew chief knew they may get pumped? It's been known to happen...

Raise hell. Not sure what can be proved legally since it was run, but make some noise about the shop to help the next guy.

Since it's a sprint car it must be MFI. Add some nitro but increase the nozzle size on the flat top holes by 10%.

I like the pump checked theory.

I've known "some" people who would do that, along with some strategically located roll bar tubes to "help" the official choose certain cylinders.

410 sprint on mechanical injection. No compression rules.

The engine rev'd effortlessly last season... this year it choked down to 8200-8400. It was their long track motor but could not keep up this year.

I guess I'd be sitting in front of their shop the morning after I found this but they have been pretty cool about the whole deal. Might have a different plan on dealing with the guy. I was told this gshop is a big time deal with lots of top name customers.
