4150 to 4500 Intake Conversion

I have a SBC intake made for the 4150 but I need to run a 4500, I have the 2" funnel adapter but I'd like to have a little more hood clearance so I'm wondering if a 1/2" or 3/4" flange plate welded to the top of the intake would work as well as the adapter. Which method would give the best flow? Do I need to remove the cloverleaf with either one? I know there are a lot of variables but any educated guesses as to what might work better? Thanks!

You could, but you need to consider the cost of welding, port work, etc....and you may not gain at all...If it were me, I'd just sell that one and get an intake made for the dominator....

Also, there are 4150 carbs the flow over 1200 CFM, so unless you're going really big on the 4500...

Curious as to why "you need to run a 4500"?

Ive put 4500’s on a couple 400’ motors just like you suggested. The always picked up. Usually at least a 1/10 in quarter. The last one we tried was on 350 cubes and it picked up 2/100 in 1/8. I think its more to to with air flow through carb than size. All these were through air cleaner also. I also have a 1050 4150 flange and it offered no gain over 850 4150. Didn’t matter how we jetted. I think the dommy stream lines the flow alot better.

I also have a 1050 4150 flange and it offered no gain over 850 4150.
Of course, the typical 4150 850(original type) vs the typical 4150 1050 is really only a difference of .030” venturi diameter(1.560 vs 1.590), which isn’t going to equate to anything close to a 200cfm flow difference.

Then there’s the Race Demon “1000” vs the Mighty Demon “850”...... which are actually the same size(1.560v X 1.750 bore).
Somewhat handy with a die grinder.

Yes I like the dommies. Even the throttle response seems better. You can pick up the old style dommies pretty reasonable these days work well.

Curious to your thoughts on something smaller in cubic inch 306 with a 4500 dominator. (Methanol application) 11:1 225 TFS Cleveland head, 8500 RPM.

1.76 glide / 8" converter

4.30 gear, approximately 2600/2700 lbs race weight.

At that rpm likely see gains depending on intake. If you know of someone with a 1050 give it a try.

Intake is a TMeyer track boss, would it be worth it to have the 4150 pad milled off and 4500 pad welded and blended?. Or try with an adapter?

Well with the adapter you can always go back. If the engine doesn’t like it you have options. Every engine is different and you never know what its likes till you actually try it. For example. We dynoed a Cleveland with a 4 hole spacer under a 850 quickfuel. On dyno it showed zero gains. However at track it moved the car .400 in 1/8 so a significant gain.
