The figure of 1500lb is is wrong. it would have to be several times that to even be believable.
Nevermind the threaded holes in the rod which is the same material as the cracked part

It’s probably 1500psi in the cylinder that drives the wedge that splits it

I'm not an engineer, but I have read somewhere that they use a weight that they drop from some height to break the rods. Perhaps the 1500 lbs refers to the weight but the height is unspecified.
