Street hyd cam combo
Putting together street SBC . Idle to 5500 rpm range to go into 58 GMC truck. For keeping expense down but wanting longevity what is best bang for buck as far as lifter choice and cam material. I have been looking at asking for cam ground using a P55 core and using the lifters that have the what look like a hard waffer attached to the face .I consider longevity to be cam and lifter life of around 150,000 in carbed street engine using proper oil. Spring pressure recommendation would be welcome also. Specs on engine . 9:1 350 sbc. Edelbrock heads (E-street?) , older sp2p manifold and 600 Edelbrock carb. 1 5/8 long tube headers. Bolted to custom built 4L80 trans with 3.73:1 ring and pinion diff. Tire size , don't know yet ,but not overly big. I have been thinking of asking for a single pattern cam of about 268 adv, 217* @.050 with a .309 lobe lift and using 1.6 rockers. What say the people in the know?
Re: Street hyd cam combo
I'm with you on the single-pattern cam in this application but I think 268* may be a little long. Maybe 262* or possibly even 256* on a 108 LSA?
Are you sure that's the intake you want to go with over say a Performer EPS?

Re: Street hyd cam combo
I would use a hydraulic roller block and cam, scrap that intake for a Performer eps or rpm. Heads will work for a street rod truck. You don't need the 4l80e strength but it will work fine.
Why is the least trained, lowest paid tech working on the most important part of your car, THE BRAKES ! I know I work next to him.

Yep, even a factory roller cam with 1.6 rockers, with the eddy heads, an EPS small carb good exhaust and quality build it would be a great truck engine. And last!

I have used that intake before. It is made for low towing rpm. It is done at 4000 rpm. The old hi energy comp cam 268 is easy on parts. I would use the edelbrock EPS.
Re: Street hyd cam combo
Use Comp cams cs265DEH-10 cam.
265-269 211-221 .442"-.465" (1.5) 110 lsa 106/114
Use a dual plane intake.

Re: Street hyd cam combo
Thanks for the replies, the manifold is not the one I would want to use but it is on my shelf . Might still spend $ on a better one. Biggest issue is I need to know about cam core and lifters to use for longevity while staying with flat tappet hyd set up.

Re: Street hyd cam combo
Thank you Mike on the cam suggestion. Yes on ability to groove lifter bores for getting oil to lobe and lifter surfaces. I will look at getting newer intake for this if this one is considered undesirable for this combo. If the truck were mine I would build it to be more snotty but i gotta keep my brother happy.
