Ford mech fuelpump for Webers

Post by Caprimaniac »

Have this mech fuel pump from a Econoline 302 van.
Stamped «made in the usa» and (part) number 67501.

I have not been able to identify manufacturer.

Webers usually want 3- 3.5 psi pressure. Will I need a regulator?

Don't know about the pump but Aeromotive now makes a special regulator for low pressure systems like this. I have one for mine but haven't got it all together to test yet. https://aeromotiveinc.com/product/low-p ... regulator/

Isn't that Aero reg for electrical pumps?

I think the mechanical pump will be fine and meet your fuel needs without a regulator.

You may need a coil of rubber hose to soften the pulsations . But the pressure should be fine . Or Maybe fit a horizontally mounted filter between the pump and carb . The little air pocket in the filter will also soften the pulses. Not the same as vertically mounted FWIW.

That pulse thing is good point.
Probably only matters at low rpm and even then would be unnoticeable on conventional oem carbs.
Never messed with a Weber.
How touchy are the needles n seats?
Is there a max pressure for webers?

Agree on the pulses, yes. I will most probably follow Your advice on a horisontal filter.

Yes; some say 3,5 some say 4 psi max. Yes, needle & seat.

4 carbs, Y in the front, then feed the two carbs in front, then to 2. row carbs and then make a loop to tie the rear carbs together. A greater volume to take out the pulses (given there is an air Pocket or non- solid lines).

More or less only one way to find out. Put it together and rune it. Measure pressure and if to high, I'll throw in the regulator.

Thanks for good input

Bit then remains one question.

Will this fuelpump deliver enough fuel for 420hp?

Go to RockAuto.com
In the part number search box, punch in 6750. yup, Drop the 1 from your original #.
Choose fuel and air as the part group.
looks like that?
Specs listed

I have a question. Have you been buying all these mismatched parts at swap meets or something similar?

He, he.... Dave, no!
The fuelnpump came with my very first V8 I got from a salvage yard. Put the parts I thought might be handy later on, in the basement. Starter, flywheel, fuelpump..

The block got hydrolocked some 10 years ago. Got an aluminum block to replace it(the one with the stuck stud...) that eill go into my racecar. And then the 3. block purchased from a mustang guy 4 years ago w/ badly repaired lifter bore. There’s the story...

Thanks for the Rockauto-tip. Checking it out...

Webers are sensitive to overpressure. Low pressure regulators are readily accessible. A friend has them on his 1969 Alfa Romeo; I can ask him the name and source of his regulator.

As you may now, the pump did not work...

I did a vertical canister filter to dampen pulses.

A friend reminded my today. One of the best ways to get rid of pulsing in a closed system like this is to use a flexible hose. Yes... barb fittings, regular fuel hose and hose clamps. (Although I doubt they flex very much anyway, they all have some weaved sthrengthening.)

My system is an & alu tubes all the way...

What do you think? Anyway soemthing to try if it seems like a problem.

There is one. Has always been.....

The regulator, return style, will take out the higher pressure tops. But pressure between pump and regulator it will still be pulsating.

The Carter #4070 elec fuel pump works with Webers without needing a regulator. It is rated at 72 gph, 5 psi.

A smaller needle & seat can handle higher pressure.
IDK if one is available.
