Anyone using the Hex A Just timing set leave the valves set when moving it?

The instructions say to remove the spring load but......

The cam stays where it is, you move the crank either forward or back which moves the cam gear, to where you want it... then lock it down

Done it that way many times..

You don't physically move the cam, you move the crank to where you want the mark to be, after loosening the bolts.
Just like you would with using a belt drive.

I figured it was like moving a Jesel setup.

Heard stories about the Hex eccentric being breakage prone even when moving the crank but couldn't why that would happen. Old wives tale, most likely!

I've never broken one, using the method previous people mentioned and I've used tham quite a bit.. But I've heard of people breaking them a lot...so Im assuming they probably just tried moving the eccentric vs moving the crankshaft. I can see that breaking really easily that way.

We must be discussing two different timing chain components here. Maybe the one I am talking about is called something else.
I was referring to the one with the two piece cam gear having the front half bolted to the rear half with 6 bolts; very similar to a belt drive.

I've used the six bolt two-piece top gear before....Engine Pro, S.A. Gear and others mfg/rebox them.

I had a new one of these for a oem sbc roller setup- ended up scrapping it, nobody wanted it- some guys have no issues, most guys are afraid of it. Cloyes has been selling these a long time if they were garbage why still sell?
