Yes, you guys got it, right on.
I wire brush or sand 'innactive' surfaces instead of using primer. I think it works a lot better.

Yes, but do they work better than how I do things, on engines........mostly no.
But for some applications I am sure they are very handy. For instance, some assembly that uses many small stainless screws.

there is an application where you want a separate primer so have to use two (2) products as opposed to one (1)?

I understand X55 is not a substitute for the loctite primers. X55 will give a chemically clean surface prep adequate for general assembly in temperate weather.
Both the 7471 [T] and 7649 [N] are primarily accelerants and cold weather pre surface treatments and activators.

Cheers.

Thread locker expands and can cause a crack I've read, so I only use it in certain things or if I don't care. I usually use Blue insensitive Permatex when I do and got a set of vortecs I plan to use it on for both int & exh studs since they are the shoulder-nutless kind. But if I was using normal ARP rocker studs with a hex then I'd use a thread sealant if not a blind hole.

I have posted this many times on the boards.

I use good old Permatex, "Indianhead", Shellac Gasket Cement for EVERYTHING, including shim head gaskets so take it from there.

The stuff in the shoe polish dauber bottle. Messy as hell, but IMHO, it does what I want it to do!

I let it tack up for head gaskets and for head bolts, I put it on the threads and a messy daub under each head.
