Engine Masters

Post by NormS »

Even though HotRod has pulled out of being involved in future Engine Masters competitions, it's nice to see that J&E, Amsoil, and SuperFlow are going to continue the program under the new name, Masters of Motors. I was sad to hear last fall, that the series had been cancelled for future years. I'm glad that these major sponsors are picking up the ball, and running with it.

If Randy has anything to say about it, it will.

Do J&E, Amsoil, and SuperFlow have anything to do with electric motors for automotive use? NO

I'm very glad to hear that.

Any idea of what the format will be?

“Motor” is not limited to only electric motors.
mo·tor
/ˈmōdər/

noun
a machine, especially one powered by electricity or internal combustion, that supplies motive power for a vehicle or for some other device with moving parts.

Format will be similar to last year, with an Early Iron class, and an LS class. Total purse is said to be $60,000.

It looks like Race Engine Challenge has a much more interesting line-up of classes for their dyno racing contest this year.

I mean no offense to anyone, but I don’t care if they call it “The Powder-Puff Hand Clap’n Challenge”. I am grateful that there is yet another venue for some to compete and others to enjoy in this passion we all share for horsepower. With loosing race tracks and racing associations these days we should be thankful when people step up to keep our hobby alive.

Why not start modifying engines that have technology from the 21st century? Just a thought.

You can buy, quite literally, just four performance vehicles with a pushrod engine: Camaro, Corvette, Challenger, and Charger (funny how they all have C's eh?). It costs you essentially $40k to enter this club.....so why not modify some more affordable engine/vehicle platforms? Have an engine masters with turbo-4s so people can bring VW TFSI engines, Honda turbo VTEC engines, Ford Ecoboost engines.....etc. Gotta move with the times.

Even the ill named MOM states Engine specs in its rules, not motor specs.

Especially now with electric and hybrids that actually use a motor.

A HVAC guy would never inform a customer his furnace needs a new Engine.

Motoring is travelling in a self propelled conveyance EG: Horseless carriage.

A motor car is a powered conveyance, possibly by electric motor or ICE

All the "Motor Car" Company's list Engine specs in their literature, unless Electric.

There is no logical reason to call an Internal Combustion Engine a motor.

There is no logical reason to call a motor an Engine.

An engine is a form of motor. It's not hard to understand.

Motorcars
Motorcycles
Motor Sports racing
Motor boats
Motor vehicles
General Motors
Ford Motor Company

Terms that have been around for longer then anyone here, and all refer to vehicles that are powered by engines.

There's nothing wrong about calling an engine, a motor. It's like calling a car or truck, a vehicle.

I guess Merriam-Webster has it all wrong:
mo·tor | \ ˈmō-tər \
Definition of motor (Entry 1 of 3)
1 : one that imparts motion
specifically : PRIME MOVER
2 : any of various power units that develop energy or impart motion: such as
a : a small compact engine
b : INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
especially : a gasoline engine
c : a rotating machine that transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy

Exactly.
