ideas on ford 331
cutomer has 331 ford, (302 based, 3.250" crank instead). currently has 234/238 @.050 hyd roller, w .591/.570 on a 108. springs are 145# seat, 385# open, factory motorsport lifters, scorpion 1.6 rockers, edelbrock 190 perf rpm heads, 2.02/1.6, 10-1 compression, weiand stealth intake w portmatch only, quickfuel 750 carb. Honestly the edelbrock heads look decent to start with. Car is currently manual transcT5 w 3.73 gear, but may change down the road. I have no idea what current power is, I would guess 415-ish? What besides headwork could pick this combination up....and still be regularly street driven without issues? Just finished porting the heads, am installing 2.05 valves, and am considering the short travel lifters and another 50-75 lbs more open pressure w another hyd roller cam. any ideas to increase power/efficiency?

Edelbrock advertises the heads in the 260 cfm zone...…..I would think they will pick up 30 or so...(around 290cfm) and probably 15-20 in the meat of the curve... .400-.600

Re: ideas on ford 331
That must be a lil screamer. 10:1? Possible it could handle another point of compression depending on what you plan on for a cam change? I know some people freak out with street driven often and solid roller in the same sentence but I think theres some power there also. Is that the gross cam lift with the 1.6 rockers? Maybe a bigger carb? It’s tough to decide on a smallish size displacement and what street manners you desire before things start getting too big.
Re: ideas on ford 331
Its the net lift. Currently hyd. roller. Id like to mill .30-.040 if room allows..... Not sure how much cam is too much. lolRoundybout wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2020 5:33 pm That must be a lil screamer. 10:1? Heads look beautiful! Sounds like a great little combo the way it is. The small cubes won't really need a bunch of head work. You may make some small gains, but I don't think you'll do a whole lot to make significantly more power via the long block. If you crank up the cam much more, you'll start to lose bottom end and midrage power. If it's a true 10 to 1, you're already on the edge of being able to safely use pump gas with that size cam.
I'd look into headers and exhaust... and see what he has.
What kind of car is it? Application? Gear? His expectations?

This was on pump 93 octane

street driver, toy. 90 mustang, 3150 lbs w driver. 3.73 gear for now. No certain expectations. He had shorty headers......I'm trying to get rid of those as well.....n2omike wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2020 5:39 pm Heads look beautiful! Sounds like a great little combo the way it is. Re: ideas on ford 331
Unless he wants to go a little more wild... single plane intake, full length headers, 2.5" to 3.0" 'see through' mufflers, etc... it's a damn good combination the way it is... no major bottlenecks or mismatched parts. More cubic inches is what would make the biggest difference. He could expand this one out to 347ci, or maybe build a 408 next time.rewguy wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2020 5:52 pmstreet driver, toy. 90 mustang, 3150 lbs w driver. 3.73 gear for now. This is what I've been using on Edelbrock and similar heads with 11/32" valve stems. Easy drop in deal for most of these heads.
"Quality" is like buying oats. You can pay a fair price for it and get some good quality oats,
or you can get it a hell of a lot cheaper, when it's already been through the horse.
