Intake weld & grind project

Post by KnightEngines »

Updating a manifold, after testing with the 4150 flange & moderate porting to determine if we were in the ballpark it was time to break out the TIG & fix some deficiencies for the application.
There is a manifold available for the motor (holden v8) in a dominator style, but the runner entires & runner volumes are too big for this engine, so it was either do a bunch of filling on one of them or make the smaller manifold work.

Starting point, Torque power pro paw intake, 4150 flange:

Welding:

On to the mill:

Stud holes & marking out:

And quite a few hours of grinder time:

Now we have a 4500 manifold with appropriately sized runner entries, much closer to even runner volumes, end runners exposed to plenum etc etc.

Many!
Somewhere between 16-22, not sure, lost count.
My tig torch quit 3/4 the way through the welding & it took a week to get it sorted.
