Low lifter oil band

Post by 1972ho »

Do you all think oil will have problem getting into this solid flat tappet lifter with the oil band and lifter hole being this low this lifter will be running in a cleveland block. The lowers band and hole is lower than the cleveland oil passageway when the lifter is at its highest travel.

This type of lifter relies upon lifter bore clearance and inertia of the lifter reciprocating in the bore while running to make oil pass to the pushrod. Priming an engine while simply turning the crankshaft is not fast enough to create enough inertia to accomplish this.

Grind a groove from the oil band down to the oil hole.

Wow....a .002-.003 depth is all that's needed for an oiling groove.

Definitely will. Now you need to get oil to the bottom end or put lifter restrictions in.

There is a small hole laser drilled at the bottom of the lifters.
