SBC 18 Degree Cast Pistons?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Speed-Pro- ... Sw8GNdoJJS
Why would anyone build a 18 Degree engine with cast $150 pistons!? I'm guessing there's a demand for a cheap piston under 18 deg heads, otherwise Speed Pro wouldn't make them.

After 40 years of selling parts in this industry, I have learned one lesson beyond all others. People will head to the lowest price with alacrity and verve.

Interesting. They are actually in an old 2002 catalog that I have so they have been around for a while. Might even be discontinued now.

WAG
maybe for a restricted class that had maybe max 9:1, maybe max 6.5K
that said, seems class is defunct/rules changed; if there ever was.
Not listed in 2015 SP cat.

I was thinking the same thing. Or maybe a class that required cast pistons.

Re: SBC 18 Degree Cast Pistons?
Aren't steel-strutted cast pistons good for like 300hp or a bit more or so.
I think that the high performance 283's used cast up to the 290hp engine and then used forged in the 315hp FI engine if not mistaken.
I had a set of the 283 engine's, 315hp domed, cast pistons from good old W/JCW years ago in my old junk301 and they did fine. Used to go up to 7,500 all the time in the old junk parts unbalanced SOB. Finally broke a stock rocker arm so I retired it.
Pistons were cast steel-strutted and cost all of $39.95 for a set of eight!!

Believe I read somewhere that the block just couldn't take anymore. Think it is a Cummings 5.9 diesel making some kind of insane torque before the kaboom!
Re: SBC 18 Degree Cast Pistons?
Meh...I run cast pistons in 20* stuff all the time. What is 2 more degrees?
