What SBC do you like best?
I am allergic to 350's. Always ran good but not enough torque for me. Even in a daily driven truck it just needs that 400 torque or at least that 3.3/4 stroke.
Re: What SBC do you like best?
I had a, "Strong Arm", 406, but didn't like the way it rpm'd to way up top. Just seemed slow is all, but it got up to 6,500.
Therefore I dearly love the little 301"/306"/310" type engines singing way up top. Shift at 7,500+ and repeat for me!!
Put it in a light vehicle geared and tired right to make it really go due to them being little engines!
He, He!!

3.00 stroke, 6.50 rod. I.0 ch. piston, 2.16 rod ratio to test long vs short rod test. Lol Howard's has an ultra I beam rod 6.50 not real bad in price little over 800 a set. Will switch over to the 5.7 original rod and the massive what was it 1.560 dome ch piston, then test things, also throw in the heavy high friction 5/64 rings.lol call it engine masters old school VS new school.

With that 1.0 piston normally used in 4.00 stroke builds you think when it gets down to the bottom of the 3.00 stroke crank there would be a worry with the 6.50 rod of the piston skirt getting into the crankshaft counterweight. Lol !!

Yes I used to have a big jacked up 4X4. It had a 400 and was fine. Then later in life I bought one with a 350 It was weak. Then later bought a F250 with a 460. It was good. In a real light car a 283-327 is good with 514 gears and a 4 spd.

The nice thing about a smaller cube sbc is not really how much power its making it's how you can feel it coming on the cam and yes when the rpm gets very high the sound pitch sounds great.

How much tq you looking for? The final production version of the 460 produced 245 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, you could easily make more than that with a 350 plus it would weigh less.econo racer wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 12:29 am Yes I used to have a big jacked up 4X4. Here is a 9.5:1 327 with flat tappet cam and performer intake, no need for a 4 speed or 5.14 gears.

re: chevy HT383
Even a Very Mild 383 makes 300tq at under 1800, and over 400tq at 3000
Easy enough w/ a 350 as well.

How did you guess. No not really at all never had a two stroke. When I was 11 my folks bought me a used honda 50, I put a great big rear sprocket on it and I had 8,500 acres of the old diamond bar ranch to roam around on. But my first new car was a 69 Z/28 camaro, that car and my 66 vette convertible only two cars would love to have back and I had three C3 vettes besides the C2. Bottom line the 302 most fun engine I ever had and I had as big as a 454 without going into details would do 7600 rpm.econo racer wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 12:36 am Lttle Mouse I bet you had a fast dirt bike when you were real young

None of 'em, they don't accelerate, and the head bolt pattern causes all sorts of problems with ring seal unless you like putting your machinists' kids through college, and the blocks are made out of peanut butter.

Re: What SBC do you like best?
I built a 331 for that 66 and also had a 396 in it. Have not pulled the trigger on the crankshaft I keep trying to tell myself I should do at least a 3.25 stroke but my heart keeps coming back to the 3.00 stroke. Lol
