COP vs CNP

Post by chimpvalet »

Hello,

Adding an aftermarket fuel/spark ECU to a distributor equipped 4 banger with intent to go sequential direct-fire ignition, deleting the dizzy. How do COP igniters compare for reliability versus CNP? It's a normally aspirated street engine so either set-up will spark it sufficiently.

Thanks
Steve

Where are the plugs located in relation to the exhaust?

This is a Lotus 900 series engine, 45 deg slant four, DOHC with plugs between cam carriers.

Well cnp lsx stuff is very reliable. Hundreds of thousands of miles and going lol and they work well for alot of high performance stuff

I would go CNP with LS coils as well. More freedom/easier to mount, plus availability that’s hard to beat most anywhere in the world.

seems better to have CNP if you have the space, they probably get less heat and vibration which is probably a good thing.

CNP works fine. Pretty much indestructable.

I'm moving away from the LS coils. Big, heavy and use a lot of juice for NA engines. The VW 4 post coil works fine. makes the same power and uses less juice. I have both tho .

Thanks, gents. I agree on the CNP type likely being better in regard to vibration and heat issues. Does that VW 4 post coil pack work full sequential or is it wasted spark only?

Waste . No power change or running change. So far, I have not seen a reason to go sequential for fuel or ignition.
The 907 wont care. IMHO. anything is an improvement over the OE.

Actually I've seen a difference between sequential and non-sequential and especially in terms of smooth running.

That VW coil pack looks interesting, any info on wiring it up?
