Can I use felpro 1094 gaskets with afr 220 heads?

Post by Bwh998 »

afr recommends the 1003, I would like to use the 1094 to help compression a little.

I would go with the MLS gasket with the thickness you really want to get the comp. up.
The 1003 will brinel the heads and they will leak down the road a while they are intended for iron heads they do work on aluminum for a while.

If using a steel shim gasket on a aluminum head you may/will get some dis-simular metal corrosion.
The speed/time that this occurs is hard to pin point .
There are specialized coolant system antifreeze types that will slow down this type of corrosion.

Short term ok long term ?????

Going to need at least 1 re-torque.
It will either seal up or it won't.
Never tried it myself.

I have used the 1094 on aluminum heads, no issues, tons of dyno pulls, no retorque. But as far as long term corrosion I can not say.

IIRC, 1094 shim USED to have a black polymer coating but NOW has a clear polymer coating.
IIRC, the package insert w/ 1094 says it's OK w/ alloy heads.

IIRC, 7733SH1 shim (much cheaper than 1094) has No coating and insert says Not for alloy heads.

Whether either properly fits your head is something you should ensure during dry fit.
