So the pertronix ignitor 3 cant be static timed?

Reading the pertromix site only the ignitor 1 can be static timed, the 2 and 3 cant.
I'd like my fresh flat tappet rebuild to light off straight away, any advice or tips on how to get the timing good enough for the 30 mins at 2500RPM run time?

Set the timing mark at 15-20*. More timing is better than less timing for fast idle & cam break in. Install the dist so that the rotor tip points to the middle of the spark plug tower on the cap you wish to use for #1 cyl [ or whatever firing order you have chosen ]; rotate the dist body to do this.

Or you could always break in the cam with the point style ignition and put the pertronix in afterward.

Use something else for a distributor and change it all afterward; horsepower is not an issue for break-in.

I just did a SBC with a III and static timed it. Probably have used another 3 III’s and static timed them all. I have no idea what the hell Pertronix is talking about.

If you are talking about static timing it like a Mag, I don’t know if you can do that with it. What I’m talking about is just getting the distributor in to fire it off.

I set the crank at 38-40 degrees BTDC on number one, drop the distributor in and line the rotor with the number one post on the cap. I’m usually within 2-3 degrees to get it started.
