Valve Springs?

Valve Springs?
Hi guys, I am slowly working on a sbc 400 build and am using an older set of bowtie 034 heads. Question is as of right now I can only fit a 1.5" valve spring without machining. Anybody know of a good budget spring for a .630 lift solid roller that measures 1.5"?
I'd rather not machine to 1.55" if I dont have to as this is a budget build.
Thanks for any help,
Brent....

Re: Valve Springs?
I dont have a recommendation
But something too consider, and I understand about budget.
A smaller diameter spring with spring locators will use a smaller/ lighter retaininer which is a bonus in my opinion.

If you are on a budget use a milder lift solid street roller cam instead of a .630" gross lift race roller
These mechanical SR cams will be in the .585" gross lift range. (1.5 rocker)
There is a good K motion 1.46" dual spring for this.
(7200 ish rpm) These SR cams are available in and duration and LSA you want.. (Custom grind form) Easy easy on parts too.

Lots of good valve springs that will work for that cam that aren't 1.5". They have 1.5" springs now that have well over 1000lbs on the seat open....I'd give PSI a call, give them your cam specs, and they can recommend the proper spring..

Yes, conicals. The new world. Less spring tension needed, less stress on the valve train.

Re: Valve Springs?
X3 with going with conical's or atleast Behives with matching retainers!
You will get the most out of your Cam this way at all rpms the motor spins at!

Re: Valve Springs?
Thank you for the advice, I will look into PSI and conical springs.
Are pressures on conical the same as standard? I was looking for around 230# seat pressure for my cam, would it be different for conicals?

Re: Valve Springs?
Don't think you'll find beehives or conicals with that high pressure.

Re: Valve Springs?
Have a look at COMP 7245. At 1.9" installed height it would be right there. It is a conical dual with 600# rate, up to .835 lift or .735 at 1.9 installed height.

I stand corrected!!!!

I wish I still had the picture of the last K Motion springs I ran for 2000 miles. Won't go there again.F-BIRD'88 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 5:47 pm If you are on a budget use a milder lift solid street roller cam instead of a .630" gross lift race roller

Re: Valve Springs?
Ok, so my cam specs are .050 262in 268ex 630 lift on both 106ls, I have found 1.5" springs through competition products for solid roller but seat pressure is a bit low at 180#. Any thoughts on if this will work for me?
The whole motor will be a compromise to some degree, but want to give it a fighting chance. Valves are 2.02 1.6 undercut if that helps.

Re: Valve Springs?
So how much installed height do you currently have available.??? Not including use of a +.050 offset lock??

Re: Valve Springs?
I also had some K Motion springs that were a complete disaster . K700. (1.26") ... But the K motion springs specific for the street rollers 1.46" dual do not seem to have a bad reputation.. BaD news travels fast.. They are the K800 spring set.af2 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 14, 2020 3:03 pmI wish I still had the picture of the last K Motion springs I ran for 2000 miles.
