Copper Head Gasket Question

I recently bought a copper head gasket for an example and noticed that there are these scratch marks. It looks like from maybe where they cut the bore holes and the cutter didn't lift fast enough? Each bore has three, two on top & one bottom they kinda curve out bout 1/2" from the bore. Is that normal? I don't plan to use the gasket but it's a SCE brand for SBC

Not to my knowledge, BOOT. Here is a link to SCE's installation instructions......

https://www.scegaskets.com/wp_super_faq ... tallation/
STEP 1 – Before installing the gasket perform a visual check to insure that no damage occurred during shipping. The gaskets should be flat and free of dents or scratches.
Then they go on to discuss O-rings and sealant around coolant and oil passages, etc.

Hope this helps,

Harry

Scratch and the dent aren't anywhere close to a water passage or bolt hole, nothing but solid metal all around it....it'll seal up just fine.

I know copper head gaskets are supposed to be used with metal o-rings, that the block & head are machined for. Is that why you say it's still good?

I also know that they are reusable once annealed in a vacuum oven. So I would think that might fix the dent. I showed the dent to the merchant and they offered to exchange the gasket but I don't need them to.

I don't plan on using this or any copper head gasket for an actual engine, I bought it to show something in a video. I only made this post out of my own curiosity about the scratches.
