It looks like you were trying to lose weight in the rotating assembly on this build.
What were your thoughts behind going with the Ross full round skirt piston versus a lighter slipper design?

They were the piston sponsors that year and were willing to make me a custom 2618 to my specs and ring choice. It’s an oddball bore size,, so I had to take what they could make

can also use a 5.3 ls flattop in 100mm over with a 3.5 stroke and 6.250 rod makes for a budget shortblock

100mm over, whats the bore size then ?

what specific rod would you be using and which crank? im trying figure out where the budget part comes in...then your still stuck with a weak windowed main block that wont handle much power without some kind of main cap support.

not only that, your limited to late style junk heads because the deck is different than the early blocks and heads. this one at 321" and your other one at 324" its a lot of screwing around with a weak windowed main block, expensive offset crank grinding.. why not go with a 330 if you want to keep cubes low? dont have to stroke it, you'll start with a block thats way stronger and any small or big block good heads will bolt on.

on your first engine, how would you get around using the chevy rod with that TRW piston when the chevy has a .927' pin and the olds is .980" ? those pistons are press fit unless you cut them for clips....removing the bushing then honing the rod out for a press fit may not work with those rods

i think you need to rethink both of these builds

3.5 stroke 2" journal 6.250 rod hyper pistons about 200.00 3/500$ for rods + basic crank work how strong does the block have to be for a 400 hp build

The small .980” pin bore without the bushing is about .994“

It’s to big for a press for a fit to start with
