The thing is a P/SA truck 86 smog 350 go 1.77, but my converter is flashing 4200, I think my TQ peak was 5200 RPM. So my next changes next time I get it out will be:

1. New fuel system
2. New ignition system
3. 360 inch small block
4. Loser converter

I will revive this thread due to to new updates: We moved our shop to Texas, with our local track around 450 feet altitude we got a chance to wring the potential out of our 327 although it has probably close to 30,000 miles now. I will list the engine specs for people who will not remember the combination.

While waiting for the track to open this year and noticing as high of a 30.14 barometer and negative DA as the normal I couldn't wait to run our C-10 and possibly see that 11 sec time. So the track opens and we get a 15 MPH head wind with a 29.40 baro, (the lowest I've seen there) and 1800 feet DA, not to mention the the track is teeming with street tired water dripping cars, so my best pass is a

60 foot 1.62
330 4.84
660 7.63 MPH 87

So I figure this is either a 12.12 or 12.13, so we didn't make it into the 11s, yes the potential is there but, it will take the right conditions, and I don't like the sound of 12s, I want 11s. I also noticed the intake was HOT all night and would not cool down, I believe the heat cross over block off plates have burned through. My question to the forum is: knowing I want a 11 sec truck my plan is to have my son build a flat top 355 vortec headed engine, we have the parts and the truck is setup for a 350, so how would you build the 355 and how much quicker could it be than my 327? Keep in mind I drive it almost daily.

My Moroso slide rule says you'll gain about 3/10ths, all else being equal.
That is to say, 1.37 HP/CID.

Always liked your builds, posts and results. Nice to see you and your son getting on with it.
Do you have a thread documenting the 327?

As for advice on how to build the 355, I've got nothing to offer that you don't already know. If heat is an issue, maybe a Air Gap style intake but that's about it.
I'm staying tuned for your next move.

Plenty of stall & gear.

Just slap a 300-25 strip dominator on it, that'll get it into the 11's.

I will be running a Vortec head on the 355, how would you cam this thing knowing I need to drive it, flat tappet cam?

Think I can get 520 HP? I know I can get 465 TQ, my 327 had 400 TQ for a 100 RPM spread, and 390s for a wide range, should help the launch.
